Having cut his teeth on tour with the African Jazz Pioneers during the turbulent 80's in Johannesburg, Hanepoot now leads his own big band in Cape Town, playing strictly South African repertoire. SALT & VINEGAR is indeed a tribute to the late Ntemi Piliso, leader of the African Jazz Pioneers. It starts with a bass & drum duet on a 6/8 African groove, flowing into a Marabi swing feel, featuring a capella Sax soli sections, and plenty of space for solos (Guitar & Piano, as per score)
